The Simple Secret To Your Success In 2015

TheSecretToYourSuccessIn2015Article

We’re already one week into our new year and, according to the University of Scranton’s Journal of Clinical Psychology, of the estimated 62% of Americans that possibly made a resolution to keep this year 25% of those have already given up.

Now, a large part of their lack of success comes from the general fuzziness of their resolutions. “I want to lose weight,” is not nearly a specific enough target to hit. I mean, by December 31st would you be happy if you’d lost one pound? If so, then bravo! You’ve hit your mark! But for most of us, that number is likely to cause us to feel defeated because it’s not exactly what we were aiming for.

But even if we’re not completely specific and we don’t have the best goal-setting skills on the planet we can still be successful if we’re mindful of this one simple secret.

Take A Leap of Faith

Recently, I woke up from a dream where I was hiking up the side of a rock (think Colorado) and then came to the top where I was enjoying the scenery and taking pictures of the beautiful landscape. When I turned around to go back down, I discovered that I couldn’t find the path that I had taken to get there.

Leap Of Faith

Panicked, I started to come up with other solutions. While I was frustrating myself looking for a way back down to where I had come from, I felt that I should look beyond my situation for the answer. As I stood on the edge of the rock’s cliff, I saw another rock’s ledge about 10 feet away. I knew then that the only way to move on from this moment was to jump. Scared and troubled as to why things had to be this way, I woke up.

You Win Some, You Learn Some

The only losers in life are those who don't learn from their experiences

Being born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, I’ve been a Cardinals baseball fan my whole life. I’ve had the privilege of watching them win the World Series 3 times in my short lifetime – 1982, 2006, and 2011. I’ve also had the misfortune to see them take it all the way and lose in the big series 4 times – 1985, 1987, 2004, and Wednesday night.

You Win Some You Learn Some

It was heartbreaking, for sure, to watch these guys fight to the finish and just not have enough in the tank to take down the Boston Red Sox. It’s always hard to watch someone set out to make their dream a reality and come up short. But, like all great teams, organizations, companies, families, couples, and individuals already know, losing is never the end of anything if you’ve learned something from the experience.

So, when you lose, do you learn from your experience? Or do you just feel the pain of the failure? It might not seem like a life-changing question, but it can mean the difference between giving up on your dreams or making them a reality.
